MEDICAID/MEDICARE ASSISTANCE

Signing up for Medicaid and Medicare - and enrolling in the new Medicare Part D can be a daunting task.  As you approach 65 you can expect to begin receiving mail and advertisements from insurance providers about enrolling in Medicare Part D.

Letters from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the Social Security Administration and your current Medicare Part D provider are especially important and may require your action.    You may also receive lots of marketing letters from companies that would like you to switch plans.

Social Security has also sent out letters to people they believe could be eligible for a considerable subsidy in drug costs, deductibles and annual premiums.  If you received the letter but have not responded, please call SAAA's VICAP Counselors at (540) 635-7141 or (800) 883-4122, Extension 312 or 201.

If you meet the low income level of $14,700 or less for one person, $19,800 for a couple and have assets of less than $10,000 for one person or $20,000 for the couple, the VICAP Counselors can help you submit an application for extra help to the Social Security Administration.

VICAP Counselors Gene Rigelon and Dennis Blome are available to take Friday morning appointments in the main office in Front Royal.  You may schedule an appointment by calling (540) 635-7141 or (800 ) 883-4122 X 201.  Have your letter(s) with you when you call, and bring them to your appointment.
